What is jibaku shounen?

Jibaku Shounen (or Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by AidaIro. It was first serialized in the Japanese manga magazine Monthly GFantasy in June 2014 and has since been published in tankobon format by Square Enix. The story follows the adventures of Hanako-kun, a ghost who haunts one of the bathrooms of a high school, and a girl named Nene Yashiro who tries to summon him to grant her wish. The series is known for its unique blend of humor, horror, and romance and has been praised for its interesting characters and engaging storyline. Jibaku Shounen has been adapted into an anime television series by studio Lerche, which premiered in January 2020.
